BRAND FAQ
We are a whiskey company built by generations for future generations. Whiskey creation and innovation is an evolving, living art form that we want to continue to explore. The Henderson family has a reputation for unique and flavorful whiskey, and True Story will continue to honor the legacy of whiskey making that is inherent throughout, while welcoming new methods and the third generation of family to the industry. This is the latest chapter from the family.
True Story whiskeys are produced by blending craft and modern distilling with rich tradition, honoring techniques developed over decades in the whiskey industry. Our production method and finishing technique gives the liquid its sophisticated and distinctive flavors, while the sleek and minimalistic presentation ensures focus is fully on the drinking experience.
The category is crowded with flashy bourbons without substance. True Story presents a fresh new take on package design, breaking all the traditional “rules” as to what a whiskey bottle must look like. Our bottle balances both bold and approachable in an exciting way. The powerful simplicity of the bottle was designed with modern art to illustrate our favorite setting for sipping whiskey and storytelling:
The Henderson family table. The bottle supports our positioning of timeless storytelling with a modern edge. It has both a front and back “cover” supported by side “pages.” The bottle invites discovery with its many sides, as well as an opportunity for the consumer's own story to be written or drawn on the front two blank “pages.”
We believe that what truly matters is the experience of the whiskey – its rich flavors, smooth character, and the story it tells with every sip. Our packaging is designed to reflect this philosophy. By focusing on the whiskey’s craft and taste, we invite you to discover the magic within the bottle, one sip at a time. After all, a great whiskey isn’t defined by what you see – it’s defined by what you taste and the memories you create while enjoying it.
True Story is an invitation to share with those around you. A chair is a place to sip whiskey. A chair is a place to share a true story. True Story Whiskey is more than a spirit – it’s an invitation to be part of a conversation. So, pull up a chair. Everybody’s welcome. We’ve all got a million stories to tell – and the conversation’s just getting started.
Moscatel wine casks are used to age sweet dessert wines made from yellow and red muscat grapes. The barrels are typically made from French or American oak and can be sourced from producers in Portugal, Spain, and France. The wine is different from many other wines because of its high sugar levels and aromatic grapes with hints of flowers, citrus, and grape flavors. We finish our bourbon in these fortified wine casks. We like how the sweetness compliments the whiskey very well.
Amburana is a tropical hardwood native to South America and sometimes called "Brazilian oak". The wood has a tight grain and a unique flavor profile. Amburana casks can give bourbon enticing rounded spice notes, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar, and a long finish.
We are using both Oloroso and PX sherry casks as part of our Rye finishing blend. These bring raisin and dried fruit notes with varying levels of sweetness and oxidation that balances with the Amburana spices. The sweet and spice combination of both finishes allows us to balance the profile for the final product.
We suggest ordering two bottles! When in doubt, however, we also recommend weighing bottles using a small, portable scale. This method is more precise than visual estimation and is easy to integrate with digital inventory tools. Ask your local Storyteller for our simple True Story Weight Reference Guide!
