ROSEMARY
Rosemary Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
- 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
- 1/4 oz rosemary simple syrup (recipe below)
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Orange peel (for garnish)
- Fresh rosemary sprig (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Make the rosemary syrup:
- Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, and 2–3 sprigs of fresh rosemary in a saucepan.
- Bring to a simmer, stir until sugar dissolves, then remove from heat and let steep for 15–20 minutes.
- Strain and cool.
- Build the cocktail:
- In a mixing glass, combine whiskey, rosemary syrup, and bitters.
- Add ice and stir until well chilled.
- Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
- Garnish:
- Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink and drop it in.
- Add a sprig of rosemary—lightly torch it for a smoky aroma if desired.
