Love & Craft

By: Cat Gardner, Jacksonville Storyteller

Our story begins at ABBQ Meat & Drink in Atlantic Beach, FL.

For many in the hospitality industry, Valentine’s Day is just another shift. Love & Craft was created to give that moment back—to celebrate four Jacksonville couples who’ve found lasting love in this demanding field. Relationships shaped by long hours, shared shifts, and the deep understanding that hospitality isn’t just work—it’s a way of life.

True Story Whiskey was built on the belief that whiskey is meant to be shared—from the table of the Henderson family to moments like this one.

After breaking bread and easing into conversation, the evening unfolded into a hands-on bourbon and rye infusion experience. Each couple crafted a bottle inspired by their shared tastes and stories. Citrus, spice, dried fruit—every choice intentional. These infusions will rest until February 14—ready to be opened on Valentine’s Day.

What followed were honest reflections on partnership, patience, communication, and the small rituals that keep relationships grounded when life rarely slows down.

Michael & Kyleigh

Their story began quietly, like many in the service industry.
Michael was new behind the bar when Kyleigh’s parents became some of his first regulars. Familiar faces turned into conversations—and eventually, connection. Kyleigh and her brothers later joined the same restaurant, where friendship came first.
Long shifts and shared space did the rest. What began as familiarity naturally grew into something deeper—a relationship shaped by timing, proximity, and learning the industry side by side.

Emily & Jonathan

Time has always been the hardest part.
Working in hospitality means unpredictable schedules and constant demands. Sometimes they worked together. Other times, they barely crossed paths. Finding space for the relationship required patience and intention.
What carried them through was communication and mutual understanding. Instead of waiting for perfect alignment, they became deliberate with the time they had—choosing connection, even when the calendar worked against them.

Alex & Nicole

For Alex and Nicole, connection often starts in the kitchen.
Cooking together became their ritual—a way to unwind, collaborate, and reconnect after long weeks. Music goes on. A glass of wine is poured. The outside noise fades. In these small moments, partnership feels effortless.
And when they need something simpler, they lean into comfort. Movie nights. Card games. Board games stacking higher each week. No pressure. Just presence.

Matthew & Sarah

For Matthew and Sarah, the foundation is honesty.
The service industry is fast, social, and often misunderstood. They learned early that clarity matters. Choosing your person means choosing them fully—and speaking up when something feels off.
Their guiding truth is simple: no one can read your mind. Communication isn’t optional. Speaking honestly in the moment builds trust that carries far beyond it.

What these couples shared wasn’t a formula for perfect balance—or a promise that it’s easy.
Love in the service industry is built in real time. Between shifts. After close. In moments reclaimed from long weeks. It lives in communication, patience, shared rituals—and the choice to show up for each other, again and again.

Love & Craft exists to honor those stories. The ones shaped by hard work, mutual respect, and the belief that the best relationships—like the best spirits—are crafted with care and intention.

Every pour tells a story.

These are the ones worth sharing.
